Piper Cheyenne I,II, or III Initial Training

My Initial Training is designed to transition you quickly and safely into the Piper Cheyenne. The 3 Day scenario based syllabus is approved by the leading aviation insurance companies. The program is intended for current IFR rated pilots who are transitioning from a high performance twin into the Cheyenne. The training includes local area training flights and includes 8 hours of systems and ground training. The training flights are planned to expose the new Cheyenne pilot to a myriad of "real world" scenarios. Short field operations, high altitude flight, changing weather patterns, and late descents all happen in normal operations. Why should your training be any different? As an A&P mechanic, I delve a bit deeper into the airplane's system than the average flight school. I utilize PowerPoint slides and maintenance manuals to give you an in-depth understanding of your new airplane. Of course, we will review all the systems on your plane, but we will pay particular attention to learning the avionics. Upon successful completion of the initial Cheyenne course you will receive a Certificate of Completion and endorsements for the Bi-annual Flight Review, Instrument Proficiency Check and High Altitude Operation (If necessary). The cost is $2995 for the 3 day initial program.

TRAINING OUTLINE

Ground School

Aircraft Systems (Approximately 8 hours):

Each aircraft system is discussed with emphasis on how it relates to everyday operations. Following my syllabus you will understand how each system interacts in both normal and abnormal situations. The systems discussed in the classroom include: Aircraft General, Engines, Propellers, Electrical System, Fuel System, Landing Gear and Brakes, Flight Controls, Environmental Systems, Weight/Balance, Performance limitations, Emergency Procedures, Flight Director/Autopilot Systems, Flight Instruments and Avionics, EFIS (if equipped), Weather Avoidance equipment, Autopilot Operations, Pressurization System, and the Anti-Ice and Deice Systems. A 40 question open book exam completes this module.

Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) and Risk Management (RM) will be reviewed as it pertains to operating the Cheyenne. We also review the latest accidents and incidents pertaining to the airplane.

Initial Flight:

The first flight in your airplane is used to find the power settings and pitch attitudes which will be used for different flight maneuvers. We will continue with basic airwork which will include stalls, steep turns, emergency procedures and recovery from unusual attitudes. During flight we will review pressurization problems and emergencies, as well as engine failures. You will learn how to integrate the F/D and autopilot as well as learn how to use the avionics in your airplane as they pertain to these flights. Each flight will end with a series of precision or non-precision approaches. You will learn how to fly these approaches coupled to the auto-pilot, by hand using the Flight Director, and using just raw data. Once you are comfortable with the operating parameters and characteristics of your new plane, you will receive a BFR and an instrument proficiency endorsement. Additionally, you will receive a completion certificate with a copy you can send to your insurance company.
